Friends of DaSalvio Playground
Friends of DeSalvio Playground is a volunteer community organization dedicated to the renewal of our Playground. The playground is located at the corner of Spring Street and Mulberry Street at the crossroads of Little Italy, Nolita, Soho, and Chinatown. Since 2010 Friends of DeSalvio Playground has been working with New York City agencies, elected officials and community organizations such as Bowery Babes, a local parenting group, to push for a complete renovation and modernization of the site. Full funding of $1.9 million for the design and capital construction was allocated in the 2014 NYC Fiscal Budget. Design and construction plans are now ongoing. A bid has been accepted for the work by NYC Parks and work is currently scheduled to begin by the end of the summer 2016.
Friends of DeSalvio Playground is a member park of Green Below 14 who improves parks, playgrounds and other open, public spaces in lower Manhattan (South of 14th Street).
Friends of DeSalvio Playground enjoys fiscal sponsorship from Green Below 14, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization.
